if anyone can tell me about this or what its worth that would be great
I have one just like it. I think it is a desk or table. I have had it for many years and the guy I got it from said it belonged to his Dad who had been gone for many years. The guy I got it from was in his 60s then. If youg get an answer let me know and I will do the same for you.
I believe it's called an occasional table and I think it's mahogany
I have one very similar to it all refinished mine is black walnut. I've been told it is either a hall table (back when this was made the hall was where you entered a house and the stairs to the second floor went up from there and the hall went back to the cellar stairs or the kitchen. Entry ways to other rooms came off of that hall. another place this would go is behind a couch to put a light and or pictures or other keep sakes on.
If you would like to keep the patina and not have to do much if any sanding use KWIK to strip it Citrus Strip wash to clean it up after striping. To keep it original use garnet shellac if you live in a humid area urethane it. As shellac gets tacky with high humidity.
do you think its worth anything
Well if it is solid black walnut in that shape. I know the finish is shot but if the wood is good and there are no stains or marks on it. The way it sits in my area of N.Y. $35 -$45. Refinished $140-$185 depends on how figural the wood on the top is. My prices maybe low for buying as I refinish and sell. My finished sell prices are low because the market in my area is way down. It looks like it would finish up real nice
I have one just like it, looks like in same condition, it is a foyer table. I am going to refinish mine, my table is very good and solid
I have a picture of my hall or foyer table in my collection of pictures. I used Amber shellac on the table and the mirror. If you can keep from having to sand it so as to leave to patina. It will keep that nice aged dark wood tone.
I have one very similar to this also(will post). Mine is more decorative underneath. Stamped Wal. Fin. 10/38 No-663 and another number that I can't read I think. Other than 20 years of dust on it, it's in very good shape. I think it's from the 30's???
