I am not sure of the history of this piece. I love the beautiful painting depicted on it.It seems to be signed.Not sure which Asian country.I got it the same place as the painted leaves..Help appreciated
Is it painted on Bamboo, as that is the look it has I don't know were my taste comes from for Asian design but I do lean that way for things I enjoy. Very very nice.
Yes Zowie. Bamboo indeed .I think painted the dark area then maybe "etched".Any one here read chinese?
It sounds even better than it looks & I often asked that same question myself, well before most things were sold.

I wonder if this is a tourist piece and the writing is the place?

When I need Chinese characters deciphered , I go to the nice lady at our local Chinese fast food restaurant, she has helped me many times. Good food too!
