1854 money clip

This was my dads. I'm just wondering if its real. The only thing I can see is on the back of clip its stamped U.S.A..? Its been around for as long as I can remeber,so if not that ok to. Still means as much to me as always. My dad is no longer with us.so its helps just looking at it. And my son already say its his next. So passing it down seems like the right thing. So thanks for any info I can get on it.
