This is Octopus glass from Loetz 1880-1890's. They were Probablt decorated by a few firms as their decor can differ. Loetz must have held some patent to make these because I have never seen a comparable pattern in any other companies work. I theorize that the piece is embossed with pattern indented into the surface of the glass. Then the piece is cased in crystal (sand) glass. After the piece is blown to size the bubble expands (thickens) and after shaping in a mold is (flattens) expands some more.
the first picture shows the decor detail all applied by hand.

Hi Jericho , Hajdamach p308 -9 . states that the ides of trapping air between layers of glass as a form of decoration was patented by Benjamin Richardson in 1857 although the technique was known to glass makers before then. marny different companies used it giving it different names. "the vase in the center is usually attributed to an unspecified English source mainly due the the mark "Patent 9159"which appears on the base .
The Type was christened "Federzeichnung"by Albert C. Revi in his Ninetenth Century Glasss .
Made by by the Loetz factory in Austria in 1888 , the vases were given the name "Octopus ". ""

The variation in Dekor is reflected in the different names given to the different surface designs ... Victoria is the only one firmly attributed ...
As I have noted before I like the the Empire or Emperor/ess theme for these ... in 1888 the existing Empires I can easily identify were the Austro-Hungarian (Holy Roman), the British (Victorian) and the Japanese ...
.... think the French version was probably out of favour following Marie Antoinette, etc. ...
The other historical Empire - being the Egyptian one - may come into the discussion as well at some point ... Sphinx is a Loetz Dekor documented in the musterschnitte ...

Cool to know the distinction, never caught it before, I'll look at the whole set, send me an email request and ill shoot them over in two or three emails, you maybe right about the green one...

Interestingly there is a piece that also has engraved British RD#76057 on the base.
Would love to see the RD paperwork on this #.
