I 'inherited' it from a woman whose home we rented in the late 70's.She made all of her clothes, because she was well over average height. In the 1970's, she was over 90 years old. I received many of her sewing accessories, patterns, button hooks, etc, but no one seems to know what this little item is. It is sturdy metal and is shown expanded. You squeeze it closed, like an accordion, and hold it closed with the attached metal 'cap'.It has etching on the cap. If anyone has a clue I'd like to know! I have kept this for the past 35 years because Mrs. Wagner was a special woman, and I love holding a piece of her history. I am thinking it is a sewing tool just because it was in her project boxes along with other tools.
For making a handbag?
I agree, accordion handbag neck. (There's probably a better word than "neck" but I don't know what it is, sorry.) The two rings look like a different metal. Is that the case? They don't look original to me but it's hard to tell.
P.S. I believe it would have originally had a chain handle.
Good ideas, but probably not. I realize I needed a better picture showing the size! The believe the rings are original, as are the jump rings. I'll post new pictures.
I'm having trouble posting a new pic on this page. I have another picture of this item, but on a different page! IF you can find it, tell me what you think!
Hi,
My mother used one like it to hold her hair (bun) in place
PatSea, you are right!
