Hey everyone,
I do not own this sign (yet) and am in talks of getting it. In all of my years of collecting, I have never seen a button sign made of fiberglass. This one is a 36", the lettering looks correct, and has vivid color (and dents like a metal sign - can fiberglass dent?), and it even has the same outer lip construction like the metal buttons.
Anyone out there see any like this?
Thanks in advance! Ted
Oooowee, that's a biggun right there!
I have seen a fiberglass button before, its actually still in use. There is suppose to be two mounted in a circular frame that lights them up at night. They look great lit up I will try to take a picture of the one still in use and post it for you.
I am not a Coke sign expert but I would be careful on this one.
This type of fiberglass painted like that is not going to let light through. It looks to me like a home made one from a mold off of a sign that was dented. It's hard to see in the photos but lettering looks like an amuture paint job to me. Fiberglass don't dent and if it were punctured, you would see it on the back side, at least a star type bump.
It's actually an easy process. The last I knew Wall Mart still sold a fiberglass kit.
I'm just saying,
Coke.Trevor.Cola - please post - I'd love to see it, as I'm sure other folks would, too.
AzTom - my thoughts exactly! The dents made me a little nervous - the person who is selling it recently purchased it from a collection that was auctioned off, so history on it is not known. Its very impressive and looks great, but I wouldn't feel right having it without truly knowing its origin. I just prefer original pieces whenever possible.
Thanks for the insight everyone! Cheers
The trade mark painting is not original. Amateur attempt at making a coke sign.
From 25 feet it looks good. Would not pay over $25 for that sign.
