From 1902, Series II Production Number 2/469, Phänomen genre 3/430. This is basically the same as the Argus, except that it is on a yellow ground. It measures 7 3/4 inches high, which matches the size of the form shown on the paper pattern in photo #4, taken from Loetz/Series II by Jitka Lnenickova.

I almost bought a much smaller Argus the day before this one showed up, and decided against it at the last minute. I'm glad that I did, as this is a better size and decor, in my opinion.

Thanks, Moon...it's one of those decors that looks better in person, as the iridescence doesn't show up well in the photos.

I just have to say...I am new to all this Loetz and others. I am still stunned at how the colours are so incredible! I have yet to own one..and looking on eBay will never be able to own one...unless I sell a kidney! You are so blessed to have just one of these beauties!!! One day I will have one! Somehow!!! The closest one is my newest Kralik Moss Agate

I started out buying the Kralik and Rindskopf pieces at first. Rusticana is pretty cheap, and you can sometimes pick up a Papillon for under $100. Find one with a rim chip or even small crack that you can get cheap. When you get it, you won't want to put it down. I know of someone who used to fall asleep holding a piece of his new glass. I wouldn't want to risk dropping it, so I give it a good once-over when I get it, clean it well, photograph it, and into the cabinet it goes. But when you handle it, it sometimes "speaks" to you. Mine usually says "thank you, now buy another one", lol. But after I got a couple of shelves filled with Rusticana, I decided to spread out into other decors. Glatts, Nautilus, Chinés, all the less expensive decors. Then I kept my favorite Rusticanas and sold all the extras to help buy the slightly more expensive decors. So it doesn't have to be expensive. You can decide if a few is all you want, or if you really catch the bug, just keep buying what you love and what you can afford at the time.

Dave, what do you think of my growing collection so far?

You have a good start already, Lee. Varied makers and styles. You will probably become more focused on certain styles, eras or makers as you move forward. When you know where your collection is heading, get yourself some books and familiarize yourself with them. When I can't buy glass, I like to read about it. You already have a good tool right here with CW. And I would also suggest looking at all the new eBay listings to try to pick out familiar looking pieces, just to educate yourself. I scan eBay many times each day, and not just to find things to buy.

Dave, can you tell me which books to get...I am overwhelmed when I go to search out books. I love Loetz and Kraliks for now....but the prices are high for most of them...or even catalogue books to get. I love the iridescent pieces...they seem to talk to me...at this time. I have some Stolzles coming in cranberry and amethyst....love the metal rims.

Wonderful! I've been looking for one of these for a long time. The 3/430 pattern on this one looks really clean. Great example!

stunning!!!! so is LOTZ OR IS IT LOETZ , I see to different spellings , the last pic has the correct spelling? the reason why I ask is because I was getting confused:)
    11. dlfd911 dlfd911, 11 years ago
Sean, the German spelling is Lötz, with the umlaut on the "o". For those who don't care to look for the correct character to spell it that way, the ö can be spelled out oe instead, or Loetz. The same goes for ü/ue or ä/ae.
