    This medal was givin to my wife by a WW2 air pilot he had crashed his plane in the ocean near the beach.I dont know how to read German and would like to know what it says and what it was givin out for?He told her he took it off a Nazi Soldier.The old Guy was in his 80s when she got it and died shortly after but I realy cherish this
    medal and plan to hand it down, I hope I didnt ofend anyone with the story about how the pilot got the medal thats why I edited out,any info will help! Thanks Mark

      I think it says "For War Earned" but I could be wrong.

      This is a "War Merit Medal" and is the lowest grade of the War Merit Cross series of medals, these were given to civilians in Germany who assisted with the war effort, nice medal just missing the ribbon and suspencion ring. Hope this helps.
