I live in a catholic country so I find a lot of catholic jewelry when I m treasure hunting. In this country we have a long history of worshipping the virgin Mary. On every street corner there are chapels to honor her.
I found this brooch some years ago. I liked the design and although I usually dont buy religious jewelry this brooch charmed me. I recently found some other lovely religious jewelry pieces so this brooch started it all.
It has a c-clasp and a tube hinch and I would date it around 1850. I did test it with an acid test and its 9 carat 'gold'. (Where I live everything less than 14c is not categorised as gold).
I hope you like it.
I am in love with 9c gold. To me it's an indicator of old... I don't think it's used much these days... I love this piece.
ps... Growing up in Iran, anything lower than 18 was considered "not gold"... heehee!! It took me a long time to give credit to 14k and lower!!
stunning!!!!
Thanks Sean68, DrFluffy,Moonstonelover, SEAN68, Agram and vetraio for loving my brooch.
your very welcome Newtimes:)
DrFluffy, neat that I m not alone with this! I also have a hard time to look at anything lower than 18K as 'gold', but I buy it if love the design. This one I just bought because it only was one euro or so at a garage sale.
Hi Newtimes! You should/might be able to date it more precisely by looking up the designer of the medal. I see a signature on the lower left. RER (BOB)
Good point Loumanal! I already thought I remembered MURAT from somewhere...Somebody made a post here on CW a few days ago with another jewel from murat and so this is why I remembered it :-)
LOL
I love this!
vintagejewel, otiamaria, valentino and Phildavid, thanks for appreciating my brooch!
