Apparently it came from Afghanistan or area.
Formed leather.Smells burnt on the inside like as if it fire kind of smell.
I cut a piece off seems like very old leather.
Something that was used to stuff a cannon?
A piston? A ramrod?
I changed picture #4 it shows where I cut it.
Picture #4 looks like layers,strata.
I smelled it again it is burned leather nothing else smells like that.
Any Ideas?
Doesn't look like wood to me, but I've been wrong before.
Walksoftly You are probably right it appears to Me like old leather .
I cut a slice off and put a hot flame to it and it would not burn after the hot flame was taken away . And would not burn except for modern contanimation on the outside. .Leather always shrinks when it is burnt. It shrunk.
If You look at the open side of the object The outside material or sheath or (leather)is folded inward at and over the open end towards the inside.
Ram rod?
I thought it looked layered as well.

Well it has me stumped!
I don't know what it is but you could be around the Wright place some sort of tool of a kind, the love is because it's different.
