I just picked this one up the other day...and it was amazing to look at! This beauty measures 9.75 and is mint! This is amethyst encased opalescent vase. I did not know that this glows in Black light! It glows purple!!! Another great addition to my other Bohemian metal rims!!!

Gary, Kralik or Loetz? And thanks for loving so fast!!!! XOXOXOX

The more, the merrier I say. I must love collections, because I end up with collections within my collections. The different colors look great together. I did that with my Tango glass, I put a lot of similar shapes together but was careful to keep similar colors apart. It really lights up the shelf.

LeahGoodwin, actually the photos are of the true colours of the vases..the lighting diluted the colours. So I did go back and use enhancing to get the true colours back. So what you are seeing is what they are...I do not have a high tech photo shooting area...like the Pros for pieces this large. I work with what I have...... :)))) Thank you for your comment.

LeahGoodwin, I will try that..in the garden....I have been shooting inside with top of the stairway with a round window and sunroof lighting...

JayHow, well you are very smart! I googled Kralik pieces that glowed..and came up with either Vaseline, Uranium and Opalescent......nothing scientific. :(

JayHow! Are you sure that it's Magnesium and not Manganese? I know that Magnesium Oxide is used in ceramics and some industrial glass but I had never heard about it being used in Art Glass. RER (BOB)

Manganese gives the orange glow in glass :http://www.ebay.com/gds/Learn-about-FLUORESCENT-Glowing-MANGANESE-Glass-under-BLACKLIGHT/10000000000103952/g.html

JayHow! Isn't this the reason we have this Wonderful CW forum. If you look at my uploads, I am asking for help 75% of the time so I'm just a humble learner. NO one is an expert in everything....I'm very impressed with your new acquisitions and look forward to seeing them all. BOB

LOUMANAL, Bob, so how do I change my description? This is all over my head...LOL! I feel like small fry big pond! XO

I think your Heading and description is right on! LeahGoodwin agrees with you and so do I. I find that the "natural" color that Manganese imparts to glass is beautiful. When artificial means are taken to amplify the effects of Manganese are used, the glass is destroyed in my books. Dealers often do this to Oil Lamps to turn them DARK purple. I am not saying that the color in your vase is due to Manganese....it could be, but the use of manganese in glass was very prevalent in glass from the late 1880's to about 1915 & a bit later.BOB PS: I love your fine tastes in EVERYTHING!!

LeahGoodwin, will take better pictures outside and see what happens...thank you!
    31. dlfd911 dlfd911, 11 years ago
The natural UV in sunlight can sometimes light up the reactive colors in these.

dlfd911, I will do that this weekend..and post it! Thank you!!
