    (765 items)

This measures 6.5 tall and 3.75 wide. This has a half broken leg and chipped foot. Also has a polished pontil . I rescued it...and its very heavy! I have been told that this is Victorian.....or English? The head of the snake ...has eyes and a full head ...beautifully done.

Update: dasullywon, just figured out that this is from the Art Nouveau period ...Boy am I thankful and HAPPY!!!! Thank you dasullywon, for all your help!!! I was thinking this would be a no answer vase! XOXOXO for all your help!!

Hi Moonstone - how did you arrive at the Stevens and Williams attribution? Does the serpent on this piece have a head? By the way the other piece you posted is great. And I agree with Dave, Kralik.

and other professional Bohemian collectors chimed in and helped me realize its Victorian and maybe English.... :)) The snake does have a head.

      Mac63, you were correct..not W & S and corrected the post...thank you!!!!

Thanks Moonstone. You could be right it might have been made in the region of Bohemia but more likely it was made in what we know as the Czech Republic - which brings me to my second point, the glass looks too heavy and the colours are not quite right for the Victorian time period (1837-1901). Be that as it may, the important thing here is that you like it. One can sometimes get too caught up in the credentials of a piece of glass, taking away from the reason we bought it in the first place; we liked it. Help me understand something - what is a professional Bohemian collector?

Mac63, lmao you are one of those pros. Who know there stuff! That is why I double checked your opinion. So I can learn. So my question to you is ...what vase did Shaun have?!! The base is the same as mine. And shape. The vase is not any heavier than the Kralik jip I just posted. Have to say. Love this vase with all its broken feet. Let me know your thoughts

bohemianglassandmore, thank you!!! So what do you think this vase is?
    13. bohemianglassandmore bohemianglassandmore, 11 years ago
I would only be guessing, but my first guess would be Kralik. I've never seen one quite like it.
    14. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
bohemianglassandmore, thank you so much you are the 3rd person to say Kralik! So I am going to leave it at Kralik....with a question mark. Thanks again!! Love your pieces!!! XO

Moonstone, may I suggest, when you have some free time, that you look at as many Kralik pieces as possible (using the links provided earlier) to see if you can see anything made by Kralik that resembles your piece. In your research - pay particular attention to the colours Kralik used, the applied serpents, shapes, applied foot, décor and weight of the glass. It is a great visual exercise and an important one if you plan on getting into collecting “Bohemian glass”. Obviously you cannot see weight – but you have a few legit Kralik pieces now – they will help you develop your “feel” for glass.

I have been collecting glass for about 8 and I know I don't know as much as some folks here. However after handling and seeing many, many pieces of glass, one develops an innate sense for this stuff. It's not always accurate to be sure but it does help narrow the possibilities of who might have made it. I am sure it is the same with jewellery – I bet you can spot a piece of Sherman jewellery from across the room. Good luck.

Mac63, this vase is a stumper! I have 2 Kralik JIP's and this one feels old and has all the bells and whistles for Antique. The colour is stupendous! I have done a lot of research and asking around. All I get is Bohemian, Kralik and or Victorian English? This vase is way nicer than in the pictures....and its well made.
BTW, I have no idea what is a Sherman Jewellery :0 I only deal with Antique Jewelry....LOL. But get your drift.....All I know is its not newer than 75 years old.

LOL - the Sherman Jewellery reference, sorry about that. Sherman Jewellery was made here in Canada. It sells like crazy here at the antique shows. As for the glass, we all have a few mystery pieces!
