Loetz Carneol, ca. 1890 - An Early Example

This is a gorgeous early example of Loetz Carneol from around 1889 or 1890. We know this is early because the outer layer is crystal with salmon pink colored threads over a light opal glass inner layer. In the mid 1890s, they began to use uranium glass to mix with the colored threads.* The "M" crimps in the rim are also an early Loetz feature. This is the first one I've found with the unusual vertical ribs in the body of the piece. There is gilt scrollwork around the top, near the fire polished rim. Ground and polished pontil. This vase is 6 inches tall and about 5-1/2 inches wide.
