I bought this old statue today from a friend who found it in the trash. it stands 9" tall and appears to be bronze w/ brass chasing on it. this kind of metalwork is difficult. i'd love to find out more about it.

this is the sutra associated w/ Manjushri: Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Svaha! - the heart sutra.
roughly translated = Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone altogether beyond. Oh what an awakening! All hail!
i found one just like it on ebay and it's from circa 1970-1980. here is the description:
Sealed Bronze Bodhisattva Wenshu Monju Jampelyang Manjushree
SIZE:
Base: approximately 4.5 inches x 3.1 inches // 11,5 cm x 7,8 cm.
Height: approximately 8.5 inches // 21 cm.
Weight: 3lbs7.4oz.

Superb brown bronze with gold gilt decorated bodhisattva Manjusri statue , with male form torso , seated in padamasana on a lotus padamasana base, with the right hand in vitarka mudra and the left hand holding the khadga, the flaming sword that destroys ignorance and is thus a symbol of enlightenment. The base of the statue is open; it is not sealed . This is circa 1970 - 1980.
