    Hello Friends,
I picked this up today at a shop in Chatham MA.. It's approximately 15 inches in diameter, 1+1/4 inches thick and a terra cotta relief portrait of Brahms, I believe.
It's a beautiful piece, weighs a ton, and unfortunately bears no mark.
My guess is that it's an architectural rondel that was never used.
Of course it may not be Brahms, but according to images I'm familiar with of him, that's my guess.
The shop owner was incredibly nice and told me that it came from a local home that had a lot of very interesting antique art pieces.

Any information would be very welcome,.....I got caught up in the Romance of it.................... HELP!
Thanks and Warm wishes to you all,
    Tony.

Karl Marx was my first thought, too. But who would want to hang that in his living room? Have you seen the bust in Chemnitz? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Marx_Monument

Dear freiheit, Thanks for the look and interesting comment! Much appreciated!!

In the late 19th and early 20th century MANY people would want that in their living room, particularly someone during that period who was socially and intellectually astute.

I didn't think of that, cognito. I guess you are correct.
