I am looking for information on this U.S. Air Force Falcon Hughes AIM-4D Missile Shell. It is non-functioning, gutted and does not have the warhead. It is the shell only. I am looking for helpful information about this. I only found a few in existence and they are located in museums.
If you can help me on finding information, I would greatly appreciate it.
this is great!!!
Want! I have an AIM-4E, a very rare series of the Falcon model. (only 300 built) I'm having trouble finding information about the E series, but there's tons out there about the other more common variants. Google is a wonderful search engine, normally. Mine is in fairly poor shape, but it's complete less the guts and the fiberglass nosecone. The E is a semi-active radar homing guided missile, whereas the D had a heatseeking head for guidance. I plan to completely rebuild my E, make a new fiberglass nosecone, and add it to my collection of other air intercept and air to ground missiles. Thanks for sharing! Enjoy!
@Cleaver, Thats cool you have a familiar one. Where did you get it? and how much did you pay? Any idea on what something like this is valued at? I cannot find ANYTHING on it, other than the model on museums. Thanks for your comment.
Hi Sign5, I got mine at a military surplus store in southwestern Missouri for $250.00 after a bit of haggling, but he threw in a couple of other small items for free. Like I said, mine is pretty rare, but it needs to be repainted and a new nosecone built. It's an AIM-4E, but all the Falcon missiles had another designation. Mine is also referred to as a GAR-3, and the AIM-4D was originally known as the GAR-2B. They made roughly 4,000 of that series, and it was the last of the heat-seeking Falcons. The military moved on to the AIM-9 Sidewinders, which are still in use today.
I'd say that based on the condition, you could get anywhere from $400.00 to $800.00 for it, but who knows? I can only go on what I've paid for mine and other missiles and rockets that I've purchased. If you can find a military surplus nose (seeker head), it would double the value. I doubt if those are available, but you never know. I'm not sure if I can post links on here, but I'll try to put some here so you can read all about it.

There's not a huge market for this kind of thing, but there are a few collectors like me out there. I collect anything that is ordnance or ammo related, such as INERT artillery shells, rockets, missiles, grenades, bombs, things like that. Nothing live! Only the legal stuff that has no danger to it, other than if you drop it on your foot. :D
I have the ability to make stencils, decals, stickers and just about any parts for the things I collect. Parts are usually impossible to obtain, so I just dig through the internet to get the details as close as possible, then I just built the missing components. I have two other missiles in the works right now, besides the Falcon.
Hey, a fellow has to collect SOMETHING! Right?
Good luck!
