This ia a real leaf painted of or by C.M.Barker she is a famous illustrator known for her fairies this is the Poppy fairy 6"x 5" on the matte it says d'apier c.m.barker feville de viqne could this be her painting or something else not sure of the age can anyone help?
Hi, I don't think that this is a C.M. Barker original. I think that the phrase "D'apres C.M. Barker" indicates that the image was copied from a C.M. Barker image, or was inspired by the same, or by the artist's style. It looks like a Barker image, but I couldn't find this exact image. Have you found it? As for the phrase "feuille de vigne", that means 'vine leaf''. So, is this an acrylic painting on a real leaf, or a leaf facsimile? I don't see any indication that Barker painted in acrylics. She was known to use the following mediums/techniques: watercolor enhanced with pen-and-ink, black-and-white drawings, oil paints, and pastels. She died in 1973. Here's a good article on her, with lots of links that might help you find out more about your image. Best wishes for success. Charming image!
