Margarete Heymann-Loebenstein 1899 - 1990 (later Margarethe Heymann-Marks) , was a german ceramic artist of Jewish origin. She studies at the Bauhaus with an age of 21 under Johannes Itten and later under Gerhard Marcks.
She left The Bauhaus just about a year after and founded the Haël-Werkstätten with her husband Gustav Löbenstein in 1923, where they manufactured her outstanding ceramic designs.
She was forced by the Nazi government to sell her factory to Hedwig Bollhagen, (Her work was considered degenerate by the Nazis) and fled to Bornholm because of the danger to get arrested by the Gestapo and emigrate to England afterwards.
She set down in Stoke-on-Trent, opened her Greta Pottery there and was a teacher at the Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts.
Margarete Heymann has been a thousand times more talented than Bollhagen... just like Eva Stricker-Zeisel, Marguerite Friedlaender-Wildenhain
