This red box of antique playing cards looks to be unplayed, or at the very least owned by someone very organized. The box is a bit worn, with one side detatched but present but the cards are in great condition and still in order, by number and suite. No Joker
Cards depict scenes that look to all be in Virginia or West Virginia. Scenery, polo, people, rails, rivers.... Box has a two cent stamp on it with a partial date reading 3-1-1... The stamp is canceled and says U.S.P.C... C&O is marked in gold on the outside of the box. Back of cards is orange with a train drawing that says safety first.
After researching further on the tax stamp info, these may be from the late 1800s as they started stamping the Ace of spades in 1904 and this deck's Ace has no date stamp.
Trying to figure out how old this deck is. My father-in-law collected them and often bought antiques.
