Funny thing....we have been finding a lot of old junk metal and garbage buried in our back yard. This huge and heavy pipe did not register on my metal detector. I still can't get it out of the ground it is so heavy. Obviously the pipe is not metal, it is ceramic. I dug it because I thought it was an old bowl or vase at first. Anyone know about old piping?
I also put in a picture of the stream in our backyard. An added bonus that came with the new home. Enjoy!
What a beautiful stream to enjoy ! The pipe looks like a septic or drain pipe which were made of clay years ago . Just my guess from seeing these dug up when houses have to have new lines put in after tree limbs ect blocked and broke them .
Envious of your beautiful property wow !
May I say......wash your hands after handling the pipe. It is in fact a sewer drain pipe. If it is in a back yard in a rural area you will find a septic tank at the other end. It is a bell type pipe (one end flanges out to join the next). The end without the bell out is the downhill end and that is the direction of where the pit or in a city the main sewer connection is. Sorry I can't Like or Love this item...you might say it stinks :)
Interesting. Must have been an older structure behind my home at some point. Thanks!
If it's an old house it was probably carrying the sewer to that creek. I remember houses like that up into the 70's.
Love the creek, at least to look at. The last two houses we had in Ohio had a creek just into the woods behind the house, The mosquitos were large enough to carry you to the woods to feed their friends, lol
I agree with AZ Tom. Years ago it was common to pipe a septic system into a brook or lakes etc. I assure you there are still many systems in New England that still empty into water to be washed away. Mostly hunting camps or older farm houses but they still exist. If you ever get to Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine and hike along a brook you may see first hand what I mean. Carrying a canteen of water with you is always a good idea.
interesting, I knew you all could help! I will be sure not to swim in the creek. Thanks fhrjr2 and aztom!!
Well now we have another agree with the pipe & the block peaceful just the way I love it
