My brother brought this home to me after a month long work trip to Japan. I found it again after cleaning out old storage boxes. At first I thought it was a tourist souvenir, but realized they really have quite the makers mark on the front of it. Does Japan usually mark its jewelry this way?

If it's not too much to ask, may we please see the other side? Thank you.

I posted a pic of the back, I'm not sure if it's easy to tell but it looks like my first posted pic was meant to be the front. The other side doesn't look like it was polished or worked enough.

I think I've been able to translate the bottom mark. Sanada Yukimura, 1567-1615 who was a Japanese samurai warrior of the Sengoku period.

Roku Mon, rokumonsen, are six mon coins that form his family crest above his name. As a warrior, he would always wear or sleep with coins under his pillow in case he dies, he can pay the ferryman to transport him to the next world. And the entire piece is his Ka? which is his stylized signature.

Thank you TubeAmp! I wish i could get a better shot of the signature on the left which I'm assuming is the artists mark.

Is it silver? That mark on the left might be the jungin mark, which means "pure silver"

I may just have to get a silver/gold testing kit:)
