Didn't buy it but took a picture and texted it to Sean. (when his dang phone worked) He said lots of Scandinavian names...
Happened to be back several days later and it was still there. I bought it.
Kind of looks like a Gullaskruff, but this is opaque. Black.
I would appreciate everyone's thoughts here...I think knock off (Ikea?)

You will also note a large piece of bark cloth that was a recent find at a hoarder sale...and a cameo Royal Haeger big vase...also a recent find.

Have more to post, as it was a solid week of thrifting (whoop whoop) but might not get there until tomorrow, suppose to clean garage this morning. Hopefully I have moved all my hidden stashes ;))

Shape is very similar to a classic Timo Sarpaneva design for Iittala.

I love this very much !!! I still think Gullaskruf!!!
    3. SEAN68 SEAN68, 11 years ago
I never thought of that twentieth!!!!
    4. twentiethc, 11 years ago
Good point. Kjell Blomberg of Gullaskruf had a similar design.

Probably need a picture of the bottom and dimensions to determine which is correct.

Hi team! It is seven inches tall with no discerning marks on the bottom, very smooth. Gullaskruff is on my guess list but can't find a black opaque one.

Here's one in black that is attributed to Timo Sarpaneva. However, it still could be Gullaskruf . Still looking for a more definitive source.

Check out this previous post by another CW member. It shows the two versions side by side.

It was a good week for me as well Amber. I was getting worried the "dry spells" would never end in our area ! :)

      Gullaskruf, no doubt!

Twentieth, that you so much! That exact post from CW, by Austro, was what lead me to the name Gullaskruff. What I couldn't decide was if was a knock off or not. We have two Ikeas in Chicago so...thank you so much for the help and research, much appreciated.
Austro, how was your trip? Do you want this black one?

Sean, you are too funny! What is the phone status. I'm beginning to call it a POS
Austro...it's yours of course! Will get it out in a week or so, assuming you will be back. Love Scott land, have fun!

This is most likely Gullaskruf and Kjell Blombergs "Blomkula" (Flowerball), KB 63/36 . The glass is normally thinner, but this type of thicker glass has also been reported. According to the expert I consulted its probably not black either, but really really dark red or purple, which was done by adding extra oxides or other components to make it look black, since making black glass is very difficult. Try to see if you can detect a hint of color by holding the vase in strong lightning!

The reason that the glass is thicker may be that its difficult to blow thin when extra stuff is added. I warms quickly but also cools much quicker.
