I have been given this helmet by my mother, I think it might be rare as I have done a bit of research on it. I would really love to know more about it and the crest on the front. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for replies, my grandfather and all of my uncles were in the army, sadly all dead now. My grandfather was in the black watch and was in dunkirk. I have added more pics, there is a serial number on on the inside by the buckle but cant make out what it is.

Agree with manikin-- petey should be able to help out. While waiting, you may want to add some detailed images to assist. Photos of the interior, face shield and any markings would help out in determining authenticity.

My comment is not like the other ones, I can not tell you where it came from or much information about it. However after reading petey's comment, you would be able to know further information by understanding your family heritage. If your family heritage has a connection to France, than it is important to know if anyone had been in the forces. If they had been, then you know that it dates prier to 1939, however if they did not serve. The dating for the helmet is after 1939. Where as if your mother had recieved it from an auction, thrift store, friend, or anything other than heritage, this information is invalid.
I am unsure if any of this information, will assist you, but I hope it helps a little.

Hi petey, none of my relatives were in the civil defence, grandfather was Royal Warwickshire (not Black watch as I mentioned earlier), uncle was Blackwatch, other uncle Cold stream Guards, other uncle Royal Artillery, serving Burma & Africia, I have had another look at number on the inner lid by the chin strap buckle and as I say its not clear but could possibly be MB then there are about 7 perhaps 8 numbers under that .

thanks petey for that information. Would it be a good idea to get this covered on my household insurance ? Would still appreciate if anyone on here has seen a similar crest, spent a fair bit of time looking on net for similar and no results so far.

Semper means, always, so honor honour or honesty or a word similar. Pretty sure the helmet is a home front & not army issue.
But still very nice all the same.
thank you all for comments, Tinlid don't think it is home front as their crest is a white triangle with red CD in the middle
