We just got this BEAUTIFUL travel trunk today and by totally random happenstance. We met someone who had another piece of furniture we were looking at and asked if she had a trunk, to our dismay she did not. She did however contact me today and tell me about this trunk she found at a yard sale. We hurried over and bought it with out hesitation. My husband and I couldn't believe that she only asked $95 for it. I love that it has so much character and detail. It's gorgeous!
It measures 34" L x 20" W x 23" H. I believe this is a Yale & Towne trunk as the only identifying marker is on the lock itself. There are leather straps that cross over the back top and front of the trunk, that would have latched to each other at one point. There are 4 wheels on the bottom for transporting. The metal decor looks like brass and put in place with individual brass nails. The outside corner pieces are thin metal formed. There is a fabric lining over the wood on the inside as well as the outside of the trunk and may have had a shelf or compartment that sat on the top of two inside wood pieces. There is only one remaining leather handle out of two.
Lovely trunk with some really nice hardware and an overall great look to it! Yale and Towne was the lock company but not the trunk maker. Without a makers label it will be too difficult to find who made yours, as there were many on the market at the time with similar form and features. Canvas trunk with vulcanized trim (not leather although it looks like it). Probably 1910-1930 circa. I was as happy with my first trunk and everyone after that!!! Welcome to CW and thanks for sharing the joy!!!
