My sister (whose husband grew up in an antiquing family and is the start of all this) gave me this lovely salt and pepper set. The grooves are cut very deep on the swirls and frosted. The caps (sadly the metal is tarnishing and breaking down) are inlaid mother of pearl. My mystery - she told me they were French and that stuck, but arrrgghh, all I can remember is the style begins with an "M"! Marcel? Marcasite? I just can't come up with it!
