Contents Anyone?

I acquired this vase/jar recently in a bunch of belongings from my mother. I am wondering if anyone out there can possibly tell me what was in this jar. At first I thought it was a flower vase, and it makes a nice one, by the way, but notice the top pictured where a screw on lid would go. On the bottom is says 1700 ml and in the centre is a V in a circle. The number 3 and another V in also stamped on the bottom. Plus the G Signature..hoping someone can identify this for me.
I envision large green olives in this jar? its 1.75 quarts of something very nice I think? Thanks for your help. Any ideas of age, where it came from that sort of information? regards Blingiton1948
