Here is a fine example of a hard to find variation of Loetz Marmoriertes glass; namely, Green Onyx. A Google image search for green onyx shows just how skillful the Loetz glassblowers were in creating marbled glass that resembled the semi-precious stone for which it was named. A vase in this glass is shown in Loetz Bohemian Glass 1880-1940 (Hatje Cantz) The paper cut-out pattern shows that this scent bottle was part of a garniture set, which also inclued a powder jar, trinket dish, a larger covered jar, and a large underplate. It is gratifying to know that this was a piece that was used for its intended purpose - you can still smell remnants of whatever perfume was stored inside. Although Green Onyx is not listed in the group of decors, you can't argue with what it is. Marmoriertes Glass was produced from the 1880s through about 1910. Enticingly listed among the decors for this series is one I've never seen before - Aetna.

      Hi Warren
Note the 1880 to 1910 reference ... Are there references in the new book to the marmorierten lines being produced (invoiced) post 1900?
      Cheers

Steve, I haven't found any (yet). I did find a reference to the firm L. Boutigny (who is one of the few customers that list marmoriertes (carneol, hellmarmor, etc) and other early decors in Ricke II) - the new book says that Boutigny may have been a Loetz customer as late as 1905 (Ricke II gives the dates as 1890-1899). But, the large book does not show any series II designs as going to that firm. So, it's still a kind of puzzle, but the physical evidence is pretty plain: Marmoriertes glass was made on some forms that date from 1900. There was also a type of marmoriertes made in the 1920s time frame, but it isn't the same type - not intended to mimic semi-precious stone - just "marbled". I have an example with the Czeco-Slovakia oval stamp posted here on CW about a year ago.
