    (2 items)

We found this items while hiking through thick bush, we think it was from an old settlement as we also found square nails, a piece of the round parts from the top of an old wood cook stove, part of a cast iron frying pan and an axe head where the wooden handle had rotted away in the same small area. Some suggestions have been it might be from an old wagon or a hitch that connected oxen to a plough. The longer section is rough as if made by a blacksmith and is 21 in by 3 in and the handle like piece is 5 1/4 in by 8 1/4 in. There are threads in the end of the handle where it goes through the other long piece. We have stumpted many old timers in our area with no luck.

I believe that what you have is the hardware from the end of a horse drawn implement or wagon tongue/pole. There would be one horse on either side of the tongue, & the neck yoke ring would slide over the end, the piece that you call the handle would be on the bottom & stopped the tongue from sliding forward.
Here is a link to a modern one piece style.
