This beautiful young girl was expertly photographed and tinted by one of the most well known Western Photographer's Studio-- Whitney's Gallery of Minnesota.
The backmark and mount both suggest that this is an 1870s image. It may have been meant to be an 1876 Patriotic image as the girl has red, white and blue tassles at the end of her wand. She may represent young Liberty.
The blended tinting on her face really makes the image superb.

Very nice French Fashion Bisque glass eye doll . Very expensive then and now ! Great Photo !
Thanks for the information manikin. Does the era of the doll match with 1870s?
scott
Hi Scott
The earliest French Fashion dolls were produced by companies including Huret, Rohmer and others in the 1850s and 1860s. The dolls were produced until approximately 1900, although the bulk of their production and their heyday in quality and artistic merit was from the 1850s through approximately 1885. Other Companies also produced them during same time period . These were not only play dolls but actually were used as mannequins wearing the French Fashions of the day and were dressed elelaborate in beautiful clothes and shipped to USA for display in stores . The French were the trend setters for fashion then and still are . She fits the time period and only wealthy would have one . That holds true today also :-) They are in my opinion are the most beautiful dolls of the Bique and China doll era . I had several and when I sold them I paid for a 2nd rental house so you can imagine the prices ! OH PS I am not wealthy :-( I worked for them at the museum and doll hospital .
Could she be a Bru, Mani?
@Vet . Bru Jne did make some Fashion dolls the most sought after being called the "Smiling Bru" Although they made some fashion dolls the vast majority of their dolls were beautiful character Child dolls .A Bru Fashion doll would set you back a years pay :-) The doll on Scott's photo looks like a Huret doll . Good question Vet . Google smiling Bru Jne French Fashion doll and see if one comes up and the price of a original not a repro . Francois Gaultier made several Fashion dolls also . Marked F.G.
Thanks for the education manikin.
