HELLO I see a lot of theses and never buy! Except this time, these are stone and 2 inches diameter, also box has bone or ivory latches! I did hot pin test and not resin or plastic and box is beautiful. under bright light you can see deep into the stones! Very pretty stones or balls! Any information on what kind of stones is appreciated! I am sure this is old vintage set! Thanks for looking!! Don

They are truly beautiful and appear to be agate of some sort. Cheers Rose

I think Chinese medicene balls tora , they are usually metal bit newer ones are made of stone, and other materials
The use of Chinese exercise balls is based on the theory of jing luo (merdians) and xue (acupuncture points). Two or more balls are placed in the palm and manipulated by the hand and fingers. As the balls are rotated clockwise and counter-clockwise by the finger movements vital acupuncture points in the hand are stimulated.
Exercising with Chinese health balls is intended to restore energy and blood flow to the brain, muscle, and bones, and as a result improve overall health and ultimately prolong life.
Do they make a noise when you roll them in your hand ?

I'm sorry toracat but I need to say this...Nice set of balls! (lol)
    7. toracat toracat, 11 years ago
Hi Manikin, they do not make noise, they are not toy like the music ones. These are twice the size and solid, old because of real ivory latches and age of box.

Ok tora I did reframe from saying what Hula had guts to say LOL . They made them of stone early also . The noise in each ball has a different tone represents yin and yang . The made them of Marble also
Baoding balls do come in many sizes. It is recommended that a person start with a size that can be handled easily, then perhaps work up to the larger sizes :-)))))))))) So the question is how big of balls can you hold onto at once in one hand .

      oops that is refrain sorry

I am use to big! Much practice with my own! HAHA! XXXOOO!
    16. Manikin Manikin, 11 years ago
lol :-) well then you can progress to working with more balls up to four in your hand to rotate

look at this box for reference . Your balls appear much older but check out latch on case

That is a plastic latch! A copy of the older. On Antiques Roadshow they said the older boxes with real ivory latches usually have really good stuff inside, the show I watched had a small plate, it was Jade and valued at $3000. thanks Don

I know it is new and plastic was just using to show closure of the box with stone balls not metal :-)))))))))))) Most are made of metal :-) Night all
