This old Oshkosh trunk has been in the family since 1957 when we migrated to Australia from Norway. My parents bought it to ship our things to Australia. It was then left in one of the sheds for about 30 years until I asked my father if I could have it. It was in a poor condition with borers and I thought I would have to throw out the draws until I pulled off the old material and found that they were in perfect condition. I have always treasured this trunk and my siblings were surprised at how great it looked when it was cleaned up. The only thing missing is one leather strap from the side and the lock on top of the trunk. Do you know if just the lock mechanism can be purchased online and if it can be shipped to Australia.

Fabulous trunk -- I think "This Old Trunk" website may have a lock for you. They can be found as this lock looks like a common make. Thanks for your post -- really great to see such an unusual trunk!

Thank you so much for getting back to me. If you are able to get find a lock via your site it would be great. I will keep checking for any updates. I have spoken with my brother and asked if he can remember how we got the trunk. He said that a lot of our distant relatives on my fathers side emigrated to Wisconsin and some came back, so the trunk may have come back with them. Interesting.

      Hi Aussiegirl,
That is a great trunk and a pretty rare style. Wow, what a coincidence that I actually had the very same type of Oshkosh trunk which I restored, sold, and shipped to Australia a couple years ago. So now they are both in Australia! I kind of wish I had kept the trunk now, rather than selling it. But I don't have room to keep them all, as much as I would like to! I don't remember if you ordered a lock from me, but I do have a variety of old trunk locks and do ship to other countries. This is a very unusual trunk and I often wonder why more of these weren't made because they were very practical. There were a few companies that made similar bureau trunks but they are also very hard to find. I hope you enjoy using your trunk. Marvin ThisOldTrunk.com

Hi, it sounds like my trunk went from Wiconsin to Norway to Australia and most probably a few other trips in between. And to think that it's twin is in Australia. It is a small world. I am still interested in purchasing a lock mechanism to replace the one that is missing. TruckerMarvin am I able to purchase one of you? If yes can you please let me know how much it would cost in total. Thanks heaps.
