    is there anyone that knows what this is it was in a box of stuff I got at an auction. I have never seen any thing like it.

      It looks to me like part of a motion sensor light.

      The link is for a track light. The one above has adjustments in the base unit which I never have seen in track lighting. The picture isn't clear but it appears to have adjustments for field of view and angle as in a motion sensor unit. We have track lights but none have a base unit like this. Perhaps it is something we don't see in the USA.

      You have to get out more... Museums and art galleries use track lighting and recessed lights that have many ways to control the shape of the beam to suit their changing needs.
