This is a small 2 inch high cup made with small pieces of colored glass and, I think, gold. The gold makes the top and bottom rim and is the wire between each small piece of glass. There are no makers marks or any identifying marks. Has anyone else seen anything like this before?
Hello, this type of glass is called plique a jour. Just google image plique a jour and you will see all sorts of them. I like yours.
PLIQUE-A-JOUR: type of Japanese cloisonne, also produced by the Chinese for export. A French term meaning 'see through'. Translucent enamels are applied to wire cloisons, then the metal base is removed before firing, creating a fragile stained glass effect.
Thank you so much for your information DrFluffy I appreciate it.
Sure... Welcome to CW... It's so fun here...
Yeah I love it. I have always been a lurker, too timid to post. I have a lot I would like to know more about so I will be posting more often now.
That's great. I have only been around a couple of months too and everyone is super friendly and very helpful.
Yes, Dr is right...welcome! Can't wait to see your posts.
