The fan she holds is an uchiwa styled to look like it was made out of ivory. Actually it is plastic, so relax! The decoration on the fan is of a dragon in flight. The doll is next to an andon lamp. My understanding is that in the Kabuki theater, lamp dances are a part of a performance for a character who is supposed to be married but in this case, a geisha is depicted. It seems that I have a way to go learning about the dances that geishas perform, including any involving an andon lamp!
