It's that hairstyle, it gives the doll something unique. Though difficult to see, there is subtle layering going on where the long hair frames the face. The thin obi, of course is there to indicate an earlier age in Japanese history. Amazing how the Japanese kept such visual records of their culture and through the remnant art left behind, interpret them with a degree of accuracy. This doll is a testament to that legacy of history keeping!
