This oriental tea set was brought home from WWII in Germany after the war. My father's aide's last name was Lee, and Lee gave it to him as a gift before they separated, and returned home. Something was said years ago that gave me idea it was Korean, but not certain. Can anyone give me idea of origin and age? The manufacturers stamp on bottom reads "GKBCO". It is painted in orange/red, and gold leaf. Dragon's head on pitcher is gold leaf.
Satsuma Style Tea Set from Japan. Around 1940's period. Maker? Some people think this is the mark for a company in Baveria, IT IS NOT! That mark is GKBCO with a Royal Crown. It would sell retail for around $150.00-$175.00 Dave
I have a set just like this and have always had questions about the origin and value. It will be interesting to follow this and get an idea. thanks for posting
Thanks for posting this - I have the same set. It was given to my grandfather (an US Army soldier) during WWII. After my grandparents passed it was given to me. I'm curious if you have any tips on how to clean the set - it is all hand painted and extremely fragile. Any tips would be helpful. Thank you!
I have a very similar set that I posted a couple of days ago, except my set has faces hidden in the bases of the tea cups .The marks on mine are completly different, it has a mountain with characters underneath . My family is Australian and my Uncle picked up this set in japan in the early 50,s.We have been told that our set is possibly from the 1920,s or earlier. I have no idea as to value sorry.
Dizzydave has it right. Satsuma style, Japanese, value around $150.
