After thirteen years of researching this very old, unique stuffed bear of mine to discover him to be an original Teddy Roosevelt bear circa 1903. Made by Morris and Rose Michtom of Brooklyn, N.Y. He is one of a kind. these first style teddy bears were made in honor of the President Theodore Roosevelt. He was designed to stand upright and to have this full open mouth that SMILED! He was Made in America. My old bear compares very close to the famous Smithsonian bear, not the face, just the body, but my old bear is older than the Smithsonian bear. My old bear belongs in the Smithsonian Institute!!! No one will never know how many of these first style bears the Michtom's hand-made. These original, first style Teddy's were lost in time!! By 1907 The Michtom's founded The Ideal Novelty and Toy Co.

It took me ten years to realize that my old bear was designed to stand upright. he is twenty-two inches tall but originally he had a neck. Experts know that very early Ideal teddy bears are designed with a large round joint just below their head and over a century this metal joint crushes the stuffing in the neck. Over all my old bear is in very good condition for his age and how Rare he is. The Michtom's created these first style bears made of the finest materials of the time! Inside his mouth and tongue, is made of red painted leather. His pads and paws are made of Satin. He is the only example that exists of the original Teddy Roosevelt bear cir.1903. I have enough documentation to write a book on this bear! He is absolutely a very early, undocumented, Ideal, teddy bear! He belongs in the Smithsonian!
