My opinion.
I handle/ views thousands of antique images each week. I see a lot of famous people, african americans, native americans, cowboys, etc... 99% of the attributions that I see are bogus.
It is a popular marketing strategy on some online auctions/ sales venues, so be careful! There are a lot of scammers out there.
