Some folks that are on the Chuckwagon Cooking Facebook page that my wife is on are trying to find out what this is. The ironic part is that I have also found one of these up in Canada about the same time and have no clue what it is for.

    Anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks!

Picture is a bit distant. If the round piece has an edge that has been sharpened and the jaws move I would say it is part of a cutter hook with a push pole tip on it.

Thanks for the reply fhrjr2. In answer to your question the wheel is what looks to be blunt with no signs of being sharpend at any time also the jaws do move. The item did come from a large pile of old farm implement parts so I'm guessing that it came from horse days and since there are two of them in exactly the same condition they ran in a pair or more? Threshing machine or haybine guts perhaps?

OK, that makes sense. If they had horses then this pair of items are probably quick release hitches. They may have come off any type piece of equipment like a swingle tree or timber arch. If it is light weight in terms of thickness of the metal and size of the rivets then it was more likely used on a wheeled implement.

I will try and get another photo put together today and give some sense of size but judging where it came from I think you may be on the right track.
