This basket was made in the Hokuyo Glass factory and sold by Kamei, Japan's largest glass distributor in the 20th century.
I know this is from Hokuyo because only one man made this decor with these coloured canes: Kaoru Okawa.
Okawa has moved to prominence in my collection lately. He was a hugely talented glass maker who not only worked for Hokuyo but also simultaneously sold glass as an artist in his own right.
I have some other Okawa pieces and another in this decor, sold by Kamei. It is here on CW.
15cm wide by 13cm high circa 1980
I do love those candy stripes on this piece. The colors are beautiful!!!
Heavenly rainbow stripes, an absolutely gorgeous basket
So quick Scott!
The colours are very Japanese I think, and thanks for the love.
I'm not a big basket fan Jenni but I do love this Okawa decor and I got this for a good price for his work, so I am very happy!
Thanks my good friend.
I love it and a good bet to say that the colours are woven together beautifully, this is a gorgeous tribute to this talented artist !~
Very edible looking, Karen!
Amazing craftsmanship what a delight !
Got to agree with Kevin, it looks delicious! :)
LOVE this!
Basket + pretty colours + stripes = awesome!
you know that in old french catalogues this baskets were anounced as Paniers.... lovely indeed so modern in style
A basket is only a bowl with a handle and this one is beautiful! The vertical lines are so finely executed and end in such gentle curves. Then the finishing touch of a handle echoing the vertical lines and gentle curve of the body. Scrumptious!
