Yes, there are stripes in it. More prominent on the bottom and very faint on the top.

Dizzydave, I have posted a picture of the label on the lamp. I'm almost thinking it is a label to tell you what watt bulb to use.
The label is totally worn and illegible. I will try to post a picture.
