I was in London in 1979 and saw the Arts Council Thirties exhibition.
Monster event!
I had been collecting Deco for ten years by then but it broadened my view of the period. One of the pieces in the catalogue to that exhibition (which I have still) was this vase that is 9030 in the Whitefriars catalogue. It dates to 1936 and was designed by Barnaby Marriott Powell.
Thirty four years later......
I was in on a Vinnies Trawl and there on the floor waiting for me was this little beauty with a sticker price of $8.
According to the catalogue it came in three sizes. This is the smallest at 7" tall.
It is referred to as a 'ribbon trailed' vase these days.
The two coloured version had a catalogue price of ten shillings in 1936.
It was produced up until 1964.
Rings like a bell!

Very nice find. Two colour ribbon trail is more rare than the one colour ribbon trail but the "blue on sea green" is the more common of the 2 colourways. The 9030 pattern was designed in 1935 and produced in "blue on sea green" until 1949.
On ebay the small "blue on sea green" vases usually sell for over £60, so a great bargain.
In the UK all dealers seem to know what ribbon trail means to the point where even if it isn't Whitefriars and is only a vaguely ribbon trail type vase, they still call it Whitefriars. I haven't had a bargain ribbon trail vase for 15 years.
Many thanks for those comments lovedecanters.
