I recently purchased this char at a flea market. The chair is very solid & well made, & the carvings on the sides & font are beautiful. It has a back & seat cushion (the material was in rough shape so they're getting re-covered). I found a loveseat of similar style several months ago & re-covered the cushions, as well. I love this style & until these 2 recent finds, have never seen furniture like this in my "antique & flea market" shopping in my part of the country. Would appreciate any info anyone could provide as to what style & period this may be from.

I'm older than dirt and the only place I ever saw a chair like this was in the Mark Skinner Library in Manchester, Vermont. I was fairly young but already had a like for wood working. I recall wondering why the heck anyone would make a seat that went back so far. Sitting with my back against the back of the chair there was no way my feet would reach the floor. The ones in the library just plain defied standard design. Back in those days most everything was made and purchased locally. The only furniture manufacturer was the original Ethan Allen factory. Just a thought.
