Seeing Agram's lovely ladybug's I thought I would show you mine.
I ve had this metal ladybug brooch for a while. I think I bought it for a buck or something but I cant remember where I got it from. I' m really getting older! LOL
I m not sure about its age, maybe the fourties or fifties?
Its about 3cm lenght in total, its brass or copper with painted details and it has a c-claps. Other than that I know nothing about it.
So what do you think about it?
In my culture they are believe to bring good luck:)
Forgot the "d" - oops
In my culture too, bringing luck. Of couse this is an very nice brooch Newtimes, I think indeed around 50s. In my joung years about that time it this kind of jewelry was fashion for little children. As I wrote inmy ladybugs jewelry I lost on a very young age a little ladybug ring. Mostly those jewelry were enameled and os silver. I suppose this nice brooch was ment for the "mothers".
Oh well yes, I forgot they bring good luck.
I have a bit of a bad experience with ladybugs: when I was small a boy pushed a ladybug to mush on my arm!!!! I never forgot that!
I have never gotten over that really, so I m not so much into ladybug's ;-)
Thanks Agram and freiheit for your nice comments and explanation and loving and thank you kerry, Thoscahaba, vetraio50, DrFluffy, freiheit and moonstonelover for appreciating my brooch!
This is darling! My cat 'Ladybug' – would agree! I have a few ladybug items myself for some reason. ^.^ :)
An additional note: Ten years ago, when I adopted my cat 'Ladybug', I sent in a little article to my community newspaper for their 'Pet of the Month' segment. Here is the 'ladybug' part of my research at the time. Enjoy!
Ladybug Folklore (© The Animal Files)
According to some, Ladybugs are dedicated to the Virgin Mary, hence their English name. Others say they were originally dedicated to an earlier Goddess. The Dutch name of the Ladybug, 'Lieveheersbeest' means 'Dear Lord's Animal'. In shamanism, Ladybug teaches to let go of worries and fears, to trust the great spirit and enjoy life. The Ladybug's appearance brings joy and changes and is a message to have faith in the greater powers. It is said that if one lands on your clothing you will soon get married. If it lands on your flesh or hair you will have good fortune. The Ladybug was thought to be a fairy's pet and one could make three wishes when it was seen.
