Very old painted chair

I just picked this chair up from a craigslist posting from someone that bought it at an auction in Raleigh. I don't know much about it but it looks like most of it is glued with the exception of 2 screws in the back of the bottom of it. The picture looks to be handpainted a long time ago and the paint is worn in areas. I have not seen another one like it but I'm still looking for information online.

**I have learned that this is most likely a 19th century french chair. Still searching for more information.......
