HI, I have five of these chairs, with a Thonet label inside the edge of the wood seat frame...they have turnbuckles to tighten the legs, and badly need upholstery...but thought I'd see if anyone knows the age, era, or maybe a value for these chair...thanks Jean
The chair looks like the chairs my mother has that came from the New York Waldorf Astoria hotel which were replaced sometime in the late '40s or early 50's during a renovation I believe.
thanks...I know they're probably earlier than the 40s.....I appreciate you're imput

thank you, I"ll check more into the sites tomorrow, having computer hookup problems, and should be resolved somehow then....anyway, the chairs belonged to a gentleman who was the son of the only child of his grandparents who came over from Europe if I have it correctly....so I know the chairs are old and possible brought over....but cannot be positive as he is deceased....I appreciate your input...
In looking for information on a chair I bought today at an estate sale I saw your posting. I believe you have chairs by Michael Thonet:
In 1830, German cabinet maker Michael Thonet began experimenting with furniture made by bending wood that had been steamed into a soft and pliable state. Over the 20 years, Michael Thonet and his sons developed the processes and machines that would allow them to build bentwood furniture in unprecedented quantities. It was in this time period that he developed what has become thought of as the "traditional" bentwood chair: one featuring a back rest and back legs made from a single piece, a rounded cane or laminated seat, and front legs. The output of the Michael Thonet factories was vast, due in part to his idea of designing separate pieces which would be combined to make a large number of models. Michael Thonet stands out as a designer and pioneer both in mass production and in design, as he artistically explored the new forms and unique qualities of his newly invented technique.
Hope this sends you on your way to finding out about the chairs.
