I liked this one because it is out of TN. It is an 1880s CDV and shows a small child with a China Head doll.
I believe that the child is most likely a boy, but am open to input.

Nice "Flat top China doll" circa 1860's doll so it was not new at time of photo . It looks like a boy but also looks like a hair cut I gave my sister when I was 10 and she was young like this child . Hard to tell but I know the doll :-) I have one and odd they put her with a boy as these were prized by the Girls and could only play with them supervised . I sure would not trust my Brother to get his hands on it :-)
Thanks for the look and information, manikin.

Thanks fhrjr2-- take a look at an antique secretary I recently posted. It got pushed back a ways, as someone was loving everything at the time!

I'm not a doll person but as a parent and grand parent I love the look on this little one's face. A fantastic memory that is gone from the original owner but preserved and remembered here. Thanks for sharing. Perhaps someone will do the same for us one day.
I really like the kids expression as well. He doesn't look like he was entertained by the photographer!

Love the expression!
I'm going to place my bets on this being a girl, who knows why her hair was cut that way, but I've never seen a boy with a necklace.
Thanks for the look and comment david.
The necklace is a good point-- a detail that I hadn't thought about, and I agree it is much more indicative of a girl.
