Fritz Heckert Presentation Goblet given to the Mayor of Weehawken, New Jersey, 1918

I love pieces with a story to tell, and it always amazes me to consider the travels some of the pieces in my collection have made in order to wind up on my doorstep. This was picked up at an antiques show in Fredericksburg, VA a few years ago.

Large goblet by Fritz Heckert, enameled with the likeness of the German statesman Otto von Bismarck on one side, and the intertwined initials "EG" on the other. Fortunately, I know who "EG" was, because the goblet came with another item - a program from a testimonial dinner given on St. Patrick's Day, 1918 for the Mayor of Weehawken, New Jersey - Emile Grauert. One day, I would like to find out how an item in possession of the Mayor of Weehawken in 1918 made its way to an antiques show in Fredericksburg, VA nearly 100 years later!
