Mickey, there are indeed only 7 digits on the movements. The Chart dates 7,8xx,xxx to 1902/03 and 4,9xx,xxx to 1899/00. I cannot believe ingersoll would put a the then 40 year old stock movements into these watches.
I am no expert in ingersoll movements but Dave (pc-collector) and Kerry are and can probably give their input on this and settle this mystery!
Well, I'm not going to be much help, other than to say, I've found sometimes these #'s don't seem to follow suit. I've got some NOS watches with 7 digits, 8 digits and a letter with 7 digits, and pretty sure there have never been altered. I just popped the back on mine and it's 7 digit that 8686475, also after close inspection(with hood and visor) of both sets of screws, front and back, there are unmared and blue, looks as if they've never been backed off. If they've been ever.
Thank you Kerry for your input on this. The discrepancies to Ingersoll's movement numbering really baffles me! I have included a picture of the movement on my Donald Duck posting for comparison and for future reference. Apart from the extra digit, the movement looks identical to Mickey's. http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/99288-donald-duck-pocket-watch?in=activity
