    Hello,
Today I got up, made a cup of tea, ate a graham cracker, and sat down to the computer to read my CW messages. Afterward I headed to work to finish up a few things for Sunday, then set off for home where I saw the house painter who I didn't want to see, ( I've been in a rather testy mood lately and the house, as big as a cracker box, was promised to be completed by the end of June!:( . I drove by my own house and headed off to a thrift shop,...............therapy:)
Well, at the first stop this wonderful letter was given to me,( along with 2 packets of stamps, a photo, and numerous newspaper clippings ).
Funny how we're shepherded through a day.
This letter really touched my heart,
I wanted to share it with you.
    Tony.

Priceless piece of history ! Love it . I wonder what young kids will do when they want to read something like this since they no longer teach cursive writing in most schools . It is a elective ! Love this post

I went on Ancestry & found a John William B 1793 at Hagbourne, Berkshire, England (west of London).
Married Elizabeth Foster, 14 Aug, 1823 at Lewisham, Kent, England (now south London)
Woolwich is 5 km east of Lewisham & was the location of the Woolwich Royal Arsenal.
William Street is now Calderwood Street.
"Woolwich had many slums, drunkenness was widespread, and many jobs offered little or no real security. For many people a lack of education and dissolute habits prevented them from “getting on”."
In 1831 a second son was born, John William.
There are some discrepancies in the family tree that I pulled some of this info from.
I'll send you an email with some more info on this.

You're most welcome, I enjoy the hunt & this was such an tantalizing & very personal piece of the past. It's simply amazing that it has survived & begs the question of why was it kept, surely Mr Moze didn't keep every piece of correspondence.
Always glad to help, as I love a mystery.
      Have a good week!

      David
